We spent the weekend at Stillwater Sate park in Groton with the Makers and the Page-Martin’s.
On Saturday we hiked Owl’s Head.

Update from Hawai’i
I had a video call with Ben who is on Mau’i with his daughters. They just had lots of rains and some downed power lines. He talked to Patty, the neighbor at the shack and she said all was good, the roof was still on but the devastation in Wai-ohino and Na’alehu is massive.

I put the finishing touches on the Einter House by grouting the stones in the bathroom mirror surround. Fifteen years after moving onto the land and almost 6 years after moving into the Winter House I can finally say it is done….though maintenance goes on forever 🙂

Hurricane Lala Devastates Na’alehu
Hurricane Lala overtook the Hawaiian Island this past weekend.
Lala devastated the Ka’u District of the Big Island hitting Na’alehu, Wai’ohino and Pa’hala especially hard. The above picture is the Punu’lu’u Bakey in Na’alehu where we always get yummies when we are visiting the aina.
The road to the shack in the Green Sands Subdivision is impassable having been torn up in the flooding.

The Waltons
It took me a year but I have finally finished watching all nine seasons of the Waltons and am now maing my way through the 6 movies made after the series eneded in 1981 and were aired in the 80’s and 90’s. I remember watching the show as a kid on Thursday nights, 8-9pm on CBS. The Waltons, like my family had 7 children with the 5th son named Ben like my bro Ben who turns 53 today (Happy Birthay Ben, glad you and your daughters fared well on Mau’i as Lala passed by!) I took inspiration to write from John-Boy and for Nature to be my Church from Papa Walton. The show was at it’s best during the six seasons that Grandpa and Grandma Walton were on the show. Will Geer’s death left a void in the soul of the show that was never filled. His love of nature, poetry, song and dance were a joy to behold. Funny to watch the show now when I identify more with the elders than with the kids. I am the same age as Kami Cotler who played the youngest Walton Elisabeth and it was fun to time travel back to my youth as I watched her grow through the series run. I stopped watching the show after Richard Thomas, who played Joh-Boy left the show. His replacement in seasons eight and nine always seemed like an imposter having none of the passion and enthusiasm that Richard Thomas brought to the role. I am looking forward to his return in the 4th movie which aired in 1993. I was surprised watching the seasons that I had never seen before that both Mama and Papa Walton left the series. Grandma who suffered a real life stroke that was written into the storyline was missing too off visiting relatives during the last two seasons while Olivia spent some time in DC during WWII working for the Red Cross before her tuberculosis flared up again and she moved to Arizona for her health with Pa joining her halfway throuygh Season 8. The matronly cousin they brought in to be a motherly figure played by Peggy Rae filled in nicely but it was weird to see this large family without both parents. The whole cast minus grandpa who is dead are reunited in the final 3 movies. I am looking forward to seeing where the years and storylines take them.
